United States Department of Defense Wants to Use Blockchain in Its Cybersecurity Program

According to a report that was published on July 12, 2019, by the United States Department of Defense (DoD), this department is looking to implement the Blockchain technology in developing a cybersecurity program that is based on this innovative technology.

The title of this report published by the U.S. Department of Defense is the Digital Modernization Strategy, according to which the Department of Defense wants to modernize its digital presence in the world of the internet.

The Department of Defense wants to increase the overall cybersecurity of United States by integrating new and innovative technologies in it, such as cloud computing, quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and the distributed ledger technology.

In fact, the research section of the U.S. Department of Defense, called DARPA (The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) is already using the distributed ledger technology to develop an absolutely secure platform for messaging and processing transactions.

According to a report released by the news website Decrypt, the United States Department of Defense will specifically look into implementing the Blockchain technology. The department wants to develop a Blockchain network among its different units, sections, intelligence officers, and the Pentagon. Based on this Blockchain network, the Department of Defense may also issue digital tokens in order to authenticate the agents’ identities.

The United States Department of Defense will also use the Blockchain technology in order to develop a code that is basically unhackable. The Department wants to use this Blockchain-based code to secure its databases against hackers.

In the year 2000, the U.S. Department of Defense adopted a program called the Cryptographic Modernization program. According to this program the Department wants to replace all the old cryptography hardware and software in order to meet the needs of the nation in combatting its adversaries.

The Department of Defense issued a statement regarding its use of the Blockchain technology saying that a Blockchain network is not only very hard to penetrate, but also it will incur more costs on the enemies of United States to penetrate such networks.
